I reunited with my inner groupie

As i felt it had been too long since my groupie skills had been exploited to their full potential, I decided to do something about it. So. The bar we usually go to, World bar, has live bands every weekend, and live reggae every other friday. The first friday we were here, when we had the introduction party, this great great great reggae band played there, they were so awesome, I was sold. So this friday they played again..and I went over to talk to the (so handsome) singer. He told me there was no cd in sale yet, but he could leave me some sort of copy in the bar next friday. We had a very nice chat, and saturday (yesterday), I met him again:) We talked alot and it was so nice, and now we're like _this_ close! I am so in ;)

So if you don't see me at christmas, I'll be touring with the rastafaris!

Nothing in partucular, really

Oi! Right now, I'm at an internet cafe with Sigrun, and I brought my laptop to post some new pictures, maybe even some videos! Yay! But ofcourse, I ran out of power. So no pictures today. Sorry! I filmed this drum-band that are pretty famous here; they are like 9 drummers who play some days a week in Pelourinho. They walk through the streets playing this crazy cool music, they are sooo skilled, and behind them comes 50 portuguese people, anyone who feels like it, dancing and singing. It's so incredibly cool, cause they're such incredible dancers, even though they're not professionals! And these drummers, they dance at the same time as they're playing their drums...! I mean, wow...! It's cool :)

Our class is great, the portugues is coming along nicely, it's so much fun to learn new languages. The journalism class just started, it's kind of hard..or soooo boring, you know, either way. I miss that 70's show!! And I miss melkesjokolade and sodd and joikbolla. Mmmmm;) Sandra, naar ska vi spis sodd?? I jula;)

Don't have anymore to report at this point. Tomorrow we're surfing again, hopefully there'll be a little more surfing and a little less drowning this time. That would be nice.

Music i MISS is Halvdan Sivertsen, Red hot chili peppers, David Gray, Phoenix and Pink Floyd..I need it noooow.

Eu não falo portuguese. Obrigada!

Surfing bird

Yoyoyo, today we went surfing!! Crazy!! But I will get back to that. Last night, friday, we went to the famous world bar cause we were told there was live reggae every friday. Well, that was just a big, fat lie. But there was live music. Anyway, we went there with some guys we met at the beach, they were nice and everything, and it was a very pleasant evening indeed.
But this morning wasn´t too pleasant! Ricardo picked us up in our van at nine and we went to pick up all the others. I wasn´t feeling too perky, and the drivers here are crazy and the roads are bumpy..well, it was a crazy ride. Jon and Atle, two Baerum-boys, were feeling even worse than me, and they are so freaking hilarious. It[s crazy. But I mean, you have to meet them to understand.
Anyway! We finally mad it to the beach far north in the city after an hour of driving, and the waves were huge! Scary shit. The surfing teachers were great, and so we hopped on our boards and started paddling. And man, that was exhausting...! My arms felt like spaghetti when we were done. We were supposed to test this standing up on the board-manouvre, but I didn[t dare. I just helt on to my board until my knuckles were white. I mean, the waves came from in front of me, from the left, from the right, they were eveyrwhere!! I swalloved so much salt water I swear I thought I would die. Anyway, when we started getting the hang of it, it was really really fun! Not so hard as I thought ut would be. Surfing is for cool people!!

Ok, other than that, not much news..I can hardly ever get to and internetplace with my laptop, so it´s hard to post new pictures regularly..But soon I will! Katrine, I miss you too!! Although I´m having the greatest time ever. I mean, it´s hot and sunny and the beaches are unbelieveable..Tomorrow, after surfing, we´re going to a concert in porto barra, and even the president is going to be there! That´s good company.

Ok, new pictures soon! Take care! Beleza, boa noite!

Favela

Here is a picture of a typical favela. They very often go down steep hills, right into the ocean. Well, not right into the ocean, but you know what I mean. And they look like this. POOR. Dangerous places, drugs and weapons and what not. But interesting for our journalism class! Smart to get some favela-friends ;)

Hippy-hoppy

Ok, so tuesday we all went to Pelourinho, the old part of town, with our student counsellors Trond Ola and Karen, because tuesdays are crazy in Pelourinho. Lots of different concerts, people singing and dancing in the streets, food and drinks, markets and so on. Very entertaining! Trond Ola knew some guys who were doing hip-hop and breakdancing on a pretty high level, so we went to see them perform. They were ok. So after they finished, we talked to them, and this one guy, Usher (he had an open white shirt which was blowing in the wind, a huge cross around his neck, pantyhose on his head and huge sunglasses even though is was ten in the evening) started hitting on my roomie Sigrun..That was funny:) The other funny thing was, in addition to refering to reggae as heggae, they refer to hip-hop as hippy-hoppy. Now, that`s just hilarious! Wednesday, that`s yesterday, was boring. We went to school and, oh, we had our first dancing class! We are learing samba and some afro-dance, it`s pretty cool even though we suck. Hoe we`ll get better! We went to a horrible restaurant and then we went to bed about ten o`clock ;P But the daughter of Orlinda, the lady we`re staying with, got married yesterday! So when we got home, the whole family was there, and they had cake, and it was really nice. So we got cake for breakfast today;p

Today, half the class went to the policestation to get their visas in ordnung, and the rest of us had portuduese until eleven thirty. Then we went straight to the beach in Porto Barra, where we met our friends from yesterday. They worked there, and they provided us with beach chairs, food and beer, coco gelado (coconut milk), pepsi or whatever we might desire. Nice! So today we met some other guys there, they lived in a favela (dangerous! Very poor and scetchy place, you can see them from afar, I`ll post a picture so you can see what I mean) and they were hippy-hoppers. Cool people! So we`re meeting them for a reggea-concert tomorrow. Cooool ;)

Ok, that`s all I`ve got right now, later!

A couple of things I forgot!

The post called "dia nacionale, birthday and sushi" had a basic flaw in it..I forgot to mention that I had sushi for the first time! No shit! It was crazy disgusting, I almost threw up...Ouff,never again! So, that was that..and, oh, just now, like two minutes ago, Pernille came and told me she had been robbed! Well, that's exaggerating..A little kid came running and snapped the phone out of her hand. These kids are crazy as hell. They're like no more than 10 years old! Crazy shit.
And I want to tell aaaaall my beautiful friends; Sunnis,Katrine,Christina,Kristin,Sandra,Axel,Alice og alle sammen at æ ææææælska dåkker (selv om æ ikke har tid å savn dåkker helt ennu;) Dåkker e bæst!

Peace

First day of sun and first day of school

Exciting! One day we woke up,and the sun was shining! That's crazy shit, it's been nothing but rain since we arrived. But no one's complaining! We went to the beach, Sigrun, who I live with, Pernille and I, and wanted to get a smooooth tan. But oh my f****** God, the sun is waaay crazy over here! I mean, I used spf 30 all day, and still..I got a piggy-pink color all over my beautiful body!!:( What's that all about?? Not fun, I couldn't sleep cause it burnt sooo bad..But it's a little better today:) Still, I went to the supermarcado and got spf 50...! No more sore skin for Marte;)

Other than that..I bough superdupercool new Converse shoes yesterday! Good shit, only 55 reals..that's like 150kr, which is like 19 euros. Not bad! And today we had first day of school. It started off with dancing! Two crazy fit ladies were to teach us samba and some african dance. It didn't go very well, considering the fact that I have no sense of coordination in my body what so ever, but it was fun! So I signed up for dance classes:) I also signed up for surfing, so that starts saturday..I can't wait!

Other than that, not much to tell..I'll be back soon;) Trying to add some pictures, but if I can't figure it out, go to my msn space and I'll post spaces there!

Luuuuv y'all, Marte

Dia nacionale, birthday and sushi

Dia nacionale, the libearation day of Brazil, in addition to my 20th birthday!:)
OK, first day in Salvador is coming to an end,and it has been quite the evntful day...! I live with a girl from Oslo named Sigrun, with a very sweet old woman. The house is lovely, and we can come and go as we want. My night was horrible though, woke up every hour, and got out of bed at half past eight. The weather was so-so, very windy, but warm enough. So our "mum's" sister took us on a tour of the neighborhood, and suddenly, a bucketload of water came pouring from the sky...! Not very pleasant; So we met up with the other students, went for a walk, looked around, but ended up in Ane's appartment watching Dave Letterman (which, amazingly enough, was in english!)

We went to dinner at a nice restaurant in Porto Barra where I had the filet mignon, and all the others paid for me, as a birthday present..very nice! They also got up and sang a song, which was also very nice, and kind of embarassing.
The language-bit isn]t going too well yet (our mum speaks no english what so ever), but monday we start the portuguese-lessons at school..I can't wait!

The city is beautiful, I like it here already...and the other students are great:) We are actually three from the north of Norway!;) That's good shit. Tomorrow we're having a party at the top of Pier Sul, where the student appartments are, with a pool and everything..I hope the weather clears up in time! I'll give you an update as soon as possible ;)

Thank you so much for the birthday messages, everyone!! So nice, thank you, thank you:) I had a great 20th indeed:) Until we speak again, boa noite! Luuuuv y'all;)
